Coffeehouse will expand into Phoenix with a development deal for three new locations
\nin San Tan Valley and Queen Creek.<\/p>\n

The company, known as the \u201cHome of High-Altitude Roasting,\u201d will be franchised by
\nHoward Sparks Jr. and Brandi Adams, Marty and Tabitha Carter, and Pete and Paige
\nHargis, according to an announcement from the coffee shop.
\n\u201cWe have excellent franchise owners who came to us wanting to partner with us and
\nexpand,\u201d Kim Falk, the company’s vice president of franchise development, said. \u201cThey
\nare amazing people with wonderful business acumen and fit the culture of the brand.\u201d
\nThe franchise owners \u2014 who all live in the San Tan Valley and Queen Creek area except
\nfor the Carters \u2014 are still looking for locations for the first coffee shops, she said. They
\nare looking for buildings around 1,700 square feet in size and with drive-thrus.
\nFalk called moving into Phoenix a \u201ctremendous step forward\u201d for Beans & Brews. She
\nexpects the first location will likely open in 12 months.
\nThe development deal is part of Beans & Brews expanding in Nevada, Colorado, New
\nMexico and Texas, Falk said.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1993 in Salt Lake City, Beans & Brews has 67 locations across Utah, Nevada
\nand Idaho, as well one Arizona location in Colorado City. Twenty locations are in
\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n

Falk described Beans & Brews as the preferred coffeehouse of Utah, citing its highaltitude roasted beans and welcoming, calm atmosphere.<\/p>\n

The beans are roasted at lower temperatures for longer times in Salt Lake City\u2019s high
\nelevation, resulting in a \u201csmooth, intense flavor,\u201d Falk said. Its \u201chealth conscious\u201d menu
\nalso includes breakfast foods, sandwiches, sodas and teas, including dairy substitutions
\nand meat-free and plant-based products.<\/p>\n

Continued expansion in the Valley<\/strong><\/p>\n

Falk said Beans & Brews is also looking into expanding in more Valley locations, such as
\nScottsdale, Chandler and Glendale.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re an amazing brand ready to expand and would love other franchise owners that
\nwant to partner with us that meet that same cultural fit,\u201d she said.
\nThe initial investment to open a new coffeehouse location, including franchise fee,
\nranges from $400,000 to $650,000, the company said.<\/p>\n

Among the current franchise owners, Sparks previously worked as a fraud, risk and
\nunderwriting manager in the finance industry, the coffeehouse said. Adams, his wife,
\nhas experience in retail, accounting and as a pathology technician.
\nMarty Carter served nearly 20 years in the United States Coast Guard and has a decade
\nof experience in food and drink. Tabitha Carter, his wife, worked in customer service for
\n15 years.<\/p>\n

Pete and Page Hargis, described as \u201cserial entrepreneurs,” own a rental property
\ncompany. Paige Hargis is a real estate agent, and Pete Hargis owns and operates a
\nsports training facility.<\/p>\n
